Kawagoe Million Lights Summer Festival

The festival is said to have been based on the hanging of lanterns on the eaves of people's houses out of reverence for the benevolence of the castellan Naritsune Matsudaira in 1850. From 1982 it has been known as the "Citizens' festival", and events such as parades, a large procession with portable shrines, friendly-warming Samba, and local merchant fair are held during the festival.
